“From Imitation to the Sun: The Journey of Shakespeare’s Prince Hal”

My senior thesis project focuses on Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part One and Henry IV, Part Two and the character of Prince Hal. After reviewing the context of the plays’ compositions and the scholarship surrounding their relationship with each other, I analyze Prince Hal’s characterization through applying verse analysis. In addition, I study how Shakespeare manipulates the dominant linguistic mode (prose or verse) and its connection to Prince Hal’s stages of character development.
